Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 large bag baby carrots (about 16 oz)
  • 1 bunch celery, washed and cut into 3-inch sticks
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds or cut into sticks
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 can (2.25 oz) sliced black olives, drained
  • Assorted veggies for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Cream Cheese Dip: In a medium mixing bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, sour cream, ranch seasoning mix, and mayonnaise (if using) until smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency with a tablespoon of milk or water if needed.
  2. Prepare the Platter: Place a small bowl (4-6 inches wide) in the center of a large round platter. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into the bowl, smoothing the top with a rubber spatula.
  3. Create the Spider Web Design: Fill a piping bag or zip-top bag with ranch dressing and snip off a tiny corner. Pipe a spiral of ranch dressing from the center of the cream cheese dip outward. Using a toothpick or knife tip, gently drag lines from the center to the edge to create a web pattern.
  4. Arrange the Veggies: Arrange prepared veggies (carrots, celery, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, bell peppers) around the central dip bowl, covering the platter completely. Group similar colors together for a organized look or scatter for a rustic feel.
  5. Make the Spiders: Place a few drained black olives on the cream cheese dip to resemble spiders. For a more detailed look, cut olives in half lengthwise and use thin bell pepper strips for legs.
  6. Final Touches: Add any extra veggies or garnish as needed. Ensure the tray looks balanced and appealing. Serve cold, straight from the fridge.

Notes

Softening cream cheese is crucial for a smooth dip. Dry veggies thoroughly after washing to prevent the dip from becoming watery. The dip can be made a day in advance and tastes better after flavors meld. Assemble the tray no more than 2-3 hours before serving for best freshness. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based cream cheese and sour cream. For a low-carb version, skip carrots and use more cucumber, celery, and bell peppers.
