Wholesome Frankenstein Guacamole: Easy Fun Light Dip

wholesome frankenstein guacamole - featured image

A playful, lighter guacamole dip made with Greek yogurt for creaminess without the extra fat. It’s quick, forgiving, and packed with fresh, feel-good ingredients that come together in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or 2%)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 2 limes (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin (optional but recommended)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomato (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced cucumber (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your avocados. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, twisting gently to separate. Remove the pit by tapping it firmly with your knife blade and twisting — or use a spoon if you’re nervous about your fingers. Scoop the flesh into your mixing bowl.
  2. Mash to your preferred texture. Use a fork to mash the avocado. I like it about 80% mashed with some small chunks remaining. If you want it smoother, keep going. If you want it chunkier, leave bigger pieces.
  3. Add the yogurt and lime juice. Spoon in the Greek yogurt and squeeze in the lime juice. Stir until combined.
  4. Fold in the aromatics. Add the chopped red onion, minced jalapeño, and cilantro. Stir gently until everything is evenly distributed.
  5. Season with salt and cumin. Sprinkle in the salt and cumin (if using). Stir again, then taste. Adjust with more salt or lime as needed.
  6. Add optional mix-ins. If you’re using diced tomato or cucumber, fold them in now. Be gentle — you don’t want to crush the tomato into mush.
  7. Let it rest (optional but recommended). Cover the bowl with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface of the dip and let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Final taste and adjust. Give it one more stir and taste again. Add a pinch more salt or a squeeze of lime if needed.
  9. Serve immediately or refrigerate. If serving right away, transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro leaves or red onion. If making ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Notes

For best results, use ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure. The Greek yogurt helps keep the dip green longer. If you’re sensitive to raw onion, soak chopped red onion in cold water for 5 minutes before adding. For a vegan version, use full-fat coconut yogurt. Don’t over-mix to avoid a pasty texture.
