  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) baked beans
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving bacon fat in the skillet.
  3. Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook over medium-low heat until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine baked beans, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, caramelized onions, and cooked bacon. Stir well.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake uncovered for 30 minutes until bubbly and thickened.
  6. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

For extra smoky flavor, use smoked bacon. Adjust maple syrup amount to taste for sweetness. Stir beans halfway through baking for even cooking.
