A quick and easy one-pan honey garlic salmon with asparagus that comes together in under 25 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, this dish features a sweet and savory sauce that caramelizes beautifully on the salmon and coats the tender-crisp asparagus.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz / 170g each)
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 lb / 450g), trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup (85g) honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients first: mince garlic, trim asparagus, and whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Heat until the oil shimmers.
  3. Place salmon fillets in the skillet, skin-side down if they have skin. Cook undisturbed for 4 minutes until golden crust forms.
  4. Flip the fillets carefully and cook for another 2-3 minutes, depending on thickness, until opaque and flaky. Transfer to a plate and tent with foil.
  5. Add remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil to the same skillet. Add asparagus and season with salt. Cook for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until bright green and tender-crisp.
  6. Push asparagus to one side of the pan and pour in the honey garlic mixture. Let it bubble and reduce for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in butter until melted and sauce is glossy.
  7. Return salmon to the skillet, nestling among the asparagus. Spoon sauce over the fillets and let warm through for about 1 minute.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with steamed rice or quinoa.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best sear. Don’t crowd the pan. Watch heat to avoid burning honey. For gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. For dairy-free, omit butter or use coconut oil.
