Light & Spooky Blackberry Orange Sangria - featured image

A quick and easy Halloween sangria made with red wine, blackberries, and oranges. It’s light, refreshing, and perfect for last-minute party planning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle dry red wine (750 ml), such as Merlot or Zinfandel
  • 1 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 oranges (one sliced into rounds, one juiced)
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: fresh mint sprigs, extra blackberries, orange zest curls

Instructions

  1. Mash the blackberries: Add the blackberries to a large pitcher. Use a wooden spoon or muddler to gently mash them until they release their juice (about 10-15 gentle presses).
  2. Add the orange juice and slices: Juice one orange directly into the pitcher. Slice the other orange into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch thick) and add to the pitcher. Stir gently.
  3. Pour in the wine: Open the bottle of red wine and pour it into the pitcher over the fruit. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add sweetener (if using): Taste the mixture. If it’s too sharp or tart, add honey or agave syrup, starting with 2 tablespoons and adjusting to taste (up to 1/4 cup).
  5. Chill for at least 1 hour: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2-4 hours or overnight.
  6. Add the bubbles: Just before serving, pour in the sparkling water or club soda and stir gently.
  7. Serve over ice: Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the sangria over the top, and garnish with fruit and mint if desired.

Notes

For best flavor, make the sangria base (steps 1-4) the night before and add sparkling water just before serving. Don’t over-mash the blackberries to avoid muddy color. Use a fruit-forward, medium-bodied red wine. Taste and adjust sweetness based on your wine and fruit.
