A flavorful homemade peach jam infused with warm cinnamon and fresh ginger, perfect for spreading on toast or stirring into yogurt. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients and comes together in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 1 large cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 package (or 1 tablespoon) pectin (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the peaches by washing and peeling them. Score a small ‘X’ at the bottom of each peach, blanch in boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer to ice water to slip off skins. Chop into 1/2-inch pieces to yield about 4 cups.
  2. Grate 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger using a fine grater or microplane and set aside.
  3. In a large heavy-bottomed pot, combine chopped peaches, granulated sugar, grated ginger, cinnamon stick, lemon juice, and water. Stir gently and let sit for 10-15 minutes to draw out juices.
  4. Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  5. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for 25-30 minutes, stirring every few minutes and mashing peaches slightly for thicker texture.
  6. Test the jam’s setting point by placing a spoonful on a chilled plate; if it wrinkles when pushed after cooling, it is set. If not, simmer 5 more minutes and test again.
  7. Remove the cinnamon stick and ladle hot jam into sterilized glass jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe rims clean and seal with lids.
  8. Allow jars to cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks or process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes for longer storage up to a year.

Notes

Use ripe but firm peaches for best texture. Grate ginger finely to avoid stringy bits. Stir often to prevent burning. Test jam set with the plate method. Remove cinnamon stick after simmering to avoid overpowering flavor. For smoother jam, pulse gently with an immersion blender after cooking. Frozen peaches can be used but may require longer cooking time.
