A bright and bubbly summer spritzer combining fresh strawberries, basil, and lemonade with sparkling water for a refreshing and easy-to-make drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 810 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup homemade or store-bought lemonade
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • 12 tablespoons honey or simple syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients (5 minutes): Wash and hull the strawberries. Tear basil leaves from stems to avoid bitterness. Slice a lemon for garnish if desired.
  2. Muddle Strawberries and Basil (3 minutes): Place strawberries and basil leaves into your mixing glass or pitcher. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, press gently until strawberries release juices and basil is fragrant but not torn to bits.
  3. Add Lemonade and Sweetener (2 minutes): Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of lemonade over the muddled mixture. Add 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) honey or simple syrup if you like it sweeter. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add Sparkling Water and Ice (1 minute): Slowly pour in 1 cup (240 ml) of sparkling water or club soda. Add ice cubes to fill the glass or pitcher, stirring lightly to meld flavors without losing fizz.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Pour the spritzer into serving glasses, straining out large bits if you prefer a smoother drink. Garnish with lemon slices and a fresh strawberry on the rim.

Notes

Avoid over-muddling basil to prevent bitterness. Adjust sweetness based on lemonade tartness. Prepare the strawberry-basil base ahead and refrigerate for 30 minutes for better flavor melding. Add sparkling water and ice just before serving to keep fizz fresh.
