Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat or light)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s or Duke’s recommended)
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (Hidden Valley or store brand)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for thinning)
  • Black food coloring gel
  • 2 cups baby carrots
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup cucumber slices (English cucumber recommended)
  • 1 cup bell pepper strips (mix of red, yellow, orange)
  • Optional: celery sticks, snap peas, radishes, or other crunchy vegetables

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip: In a small bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 packet ranch seasoning mix, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Whisk until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to let flavors meld.
  2. Prepare the vegetables: Wash all vegetables thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets. Slice cucumbers into 1/4-inch rounds. Cut bell peppers into 2-inch strips. Leave baby carrots whole.
  3. Set up the platter: Place a large round platter or cutting board on a flat surface.
  4. Create the dip base: Spoon the chilled ranch dip into the center of the platter. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it into a circle about 5-6 inches in diameter.
  5. Pipe the spider web design: Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the ranch dip into a small bowl. Add black food coloring gel one drop at a time until deep gray or black. Transfer to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe concentric circles about 1 inch apart on the white dip. Using a toothpick, drag lines from the center outward through the circles to create a web pattern. Wipe the toothpick clean between each line.
  6. Arrange the vegetables: Starting from the outer edge of the platter, arrange vegetables in concentric circles around the dip. Place larger vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower first, then fill gaps with carrots, cucumber slices, and cherry tomatoes. Leave about 1 inch of space between vegetables and dip.
  7. Final touches: Fill any gaps with extra veggies. Optionally, place black olives on the dip to look like spiders. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Make the dip ahead of time for best flavor. Dry vegetables thoroughly to prevent sogginess. Use a toothpick for clean web lines. Keep dip chilled until serving. For dairy-free, use vegan sour cream and mayo. For a lighter option, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream and use light mayonnaise.
