This Easy Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders recipe brings back that exact momentโ€”the first bite where the meat practically melts, the tangy sauce dripping down your chin, the soft bun giving way to that smoky, tender pork. You do not need a smoker, a grill, or a pit master’s patience. You just need a slow cooker, a pork shoulder, and a little bit of time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ teaspoon black pepper
  • ยฝ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 34 pounds pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ยฝ cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ยผ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ยฝ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ยฝ teaspoon onion powder
  • ยผ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 12 slider buns
  • Coleslaw (optional)
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels.
  2. Mix the rub in a small bowl: brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne if using. Stir until well combined.
  3. Apply the rub generously all over the pork shoulder. Use your hands to massage it into every nook and cranny. Let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  5. Sear the pork on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side, until deep golden-brown.
  6. Transfer the seared pork to your slow cooker. Pour the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce around the edges of the pork.
  7. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the meat pulls apart easily with a fork.
  8. While the pork cooks, make the BBQ sauce: combine all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  9. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  10. Shred the pork using two forks. Discard any large pieces of fat.
  11. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and toss with some of the cooking liquid. Add about ยฝ cup of the BBQ sauce if using, or more to taste. Let it sit in the warm slow cooker for 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  12. Toast the slider buns lightly under the broiler or in a dry skillet.
  13. Assemble the sliders: pile the pulled pork onto the bottom bun, top with coleslaw and pickles if desired, and close with the top bun.

Notes

Sear the meat for best flavor. Do not lift the lid during cooking. Let the pork rest before shredding. Skim fat from cooking liquid if desired. Leftovers keep 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months.
