Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (about 2 large oranges)
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 oz brie cheese
  • 6 oz sharp white cheddar
  • 4 oz goat cheese log
  • 4 oz prosciutto
  • 4 oz salami
  • 1 cup mixed olives
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots
  • 1/2 cup candied pecans or walnuts
  • Fresh orange slices (from 1-2 oranges)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Assorted crackers and bread (about 8-10 ounces total)
  • Fresh figs or grapes (optional, seasonal)

Instructions

  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon stick, and salt in a medium saucepan. Stir until sugar starts to dissolve.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat (about 5-7 minutes) until cranberries pop.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and remove cinnamon stick. Let cool completely, then refrigerate in an airtight container.
  5. Take cheeses out of refrigerator 30-60 minutes before serving.
  6. Wash and dry fresh fruit. Slice baguette if using. Store in airtight containers.
  7. Place small bowls with compote, olives, and nuts on the board.
  8. Add cheeses in different areas, cutting some into slices or wedges.
  9. Arrange prosciutto in loose ribbons or rose shapes; fan out salami slices.
  10. Fill gaps with dried apricots, orange slices, grapes, and rosemary sprigs.
  11. Add crackers and bread in clusters, leaving some negative space.
  12. Adjust arrangement for visual variety in colors, textures, and heights.

Notes

The compote can be made 1-2 days ahead and keeps for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. Take cheeses out 30-60 minutes before serving for best flavor. Don’t overcrowd the board; leave breathing room between elements.
