A quick and festive Halloween charcuterie board featuring candy corn, sharp cheddar, gouda, pretzels, nuts, apple slices, dried cranberries, dark chocolate, and crackers. Perfect for parties, trick-or-treat waiting, or a fun family movie night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups candy corn (e.g., Brach’s)
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes
  • 6 oz gouda or smoked cheese, sliced
  • 2 cups pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup roasted almonds or pecans (unsalted preferred)
  • 1 large Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced (tossed in lemon juice if making ahead)
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • 4 oz dark chocolate squares (e.g., Ghirardelli 72%), broken into pieces
  • 1 box assorted crackers (e.g., water crackers, rosemary crackers)
  • Halloween sprinkles or edible glitter (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place 2-3 small bowls on the board. Fill one with candy corn (about 2 cups) and another with dried cranberries (½ cup). If using edible glitter, put it in a third bowl or sprinkle it directly over the candy corn later.
  2. Arrange the sharp cheddar cubes (8 oz) in a cluster on one side of the board. Place the gouda slices (6 oz) in another cluster nearby. Leave space between them so people can grab without mixing flavors. If the gouda is soft, fan the slices out slightly for visual appeal.
  3. Scatter the pretzel sticks (2 cups) around the cheese, creating little piles rather than one big mound. Do the same with the roasted almonds or pecans (1 cup). Spread them out so every section has crunch.
  4. Fan the apple slices (1 large apple, thinly sliced) in a curved line across the center of the board. The green creates a visual break between the orange candy corn and yellow cheese. If you sliced the apple more than 30 minutes ahead, toss them in lemon juice to keep them from browning.
  5. Break the dark chocolate squares (4 oz) into uneven pieces and scatter them near the pretzels. Arrange the assorted crackers (1 box) in small stacks around the edges. Make sure there’s at least one cracker within easy reach of every cheese cluster.
  6. If using Halloween sprinkles or edible glitter, lightly dust them over the candy corn and apple slices. A little goes a long way.
  7. Step back and look at your board. Does every section have a mix of sweet, salty, and savory? If one area looks too heavy on candy, move some pretzels or nuts over. The goal is visual and flavor balance—every bite should have options.

Notes

Take cheese out of fridge 30 minutes before assembling for best flavor. Don’t overcrowd the board—leave about 20% empty. Use contrasting colors for visual appeal. Refill items as needed during the party. Prep apple slices last to prevent browning. If making ahead, assemble everything except apple slices and garnishes up to 2 hours ahead; cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Let sit at room temperature 15-20 minutes before serving.
