These creamy, boozy orange cream jello shots are a nostalgic and delicious party dessert. With a perfect balance of orange flavor and a silky texture, they’re a grown-up twist on a classic creamsicle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (3 oz) orange Jell-O
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup vodka (or your choice of spirit)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon orange liqueur (like Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • Optional: Orange food coloring (a drop or two)

Instructions

  1. Boil the water. Bring 1 cup of water to a rolling boil. While the water is heating, arrange your plastic shot cups on a baking sheet.
  2. Dissolve the gelatin. Pour the orange Jell-O powder into a medium mixing bowl. Add the boiling water and whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Add the cold water. Pour in the 1/2 cup of cold water and whisk to combine. The mixture should feel warm but not hot.
  4. Mix in the alcohol. Add the 1/2 cup of vodka (and the orange liqueur if using) and whisk gently until fully incorporated.
  5. Prepare the cream mixture. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream (or half-and-half) and the sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Let the cream come to room temperature first if cold.
  6. Combine everything. Slowly pour the cream mixture into the Jell-O mixture while whisking gently. Avoid incorporating too many air bubbles.
  7. Add food coloring (optional). If desired, add a drop or two of orange food coloring and stir gently.
  8. Fill the cups. Using a liquid measuring cup with a spout, carefully pour the mixture into the plastic shot cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  9. Refrigerate. Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and let the shots set for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.
  10. Add lids and serve. Once the shots are fully set (firm but jiggly), pop the lids on and serve chilled.

Notes

Let cold ingredients come to room temperature before mixing to prevent lumps. For best results, let the shots set overnight. Keep chilled until serving. If the mixture starts to set while filling cups, gently whisk to loosen.
