This creamy, spicy, and tangy buffalo chicken dip is transformed into a spooky spider web design, perfect for Halloween parties or game day gatherings. It’s quick, easy, and made with simple ingredients for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) sour cream
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups (about 300g) cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup (25g) crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) sour cream (extra, for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (to thin the sour cream)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, or carrot chips (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or small oven-safe skillet with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, buffalo wing sauce, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until completely smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Fold in the shredded chicken, mozzarella, cheddar, and blue cheese (if using) with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed.
  4. Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.
  5. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly around the edges and lightly golden on top. The center should be hot and slightly jiggly.
  6. While the dip bakes, mix the extra 1/4 cup sour cream with 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl until smooth and thin enough to drizzle. Add more milk if needed.
  7. Once the dip is out of the oven, let it cool for 2 minutes. Use a small spoon to drizzle the thinned sour cream in a spiral pattern on top, starting from the center and working outward (about 4-5 concentric circles).
  8. Take a toothpick or skewer and drag it from the center outward through the circles, like drawing spokes on a wheel. Then, drag the toothpick from the outer edge back toward the center, creating webby arcs. Wipe the toothpick clean between strokes for a cleaner look.
  9. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or carrot chips.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften properly for a smooth texture. Shred chicken finely for easier scooping. Don’t overbake to prevent sour cream from separating. Work quickly when making the web pattern while the dip is warm. For a milder dip, use mild buffalo sauce; for spicier, add cayenne pepper or hotter sauce. Can be assembled (without drizzle) up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated; add extra baking time if starting cold.
