A sophisticated, savory Halloween charcuterie board designed for a cozy night in. Featuring aged gouda, brie, prosciutto, dark chocolate, and spooky black sesame-coated goat cheese, this board is a perfect blend of salty, sweet, and creamy flavors for a quiet, indulgent celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz aged Gouda (e.g., Beemster)
  • 8 oz wheel Brie (double or triple-cream)
  • 4 oz goat cheese log
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 4 oz prosciutto (e.g., Prosciutto di Parma)
  • 4 oz soppressata
  • 4 oz capicola
  • 4 oz dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher, e.g., Lindt Excellence 70%)
  • 1/2 cup dried figs
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1/4 cup honey (local, raw preferred)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup Marcona almonds
  • Assorted crackers (water crackers, rosemary crackers, seeded crackers)
  • 1/2 cup black olives (Kalamata or Castelvetrano)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Edible flowers (optional, e.g., dark pansies or borage flowers)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Cheeses: Take all cheeses out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before assembling to bring to room temperature.
  2. Create the ‘Spooky’ Goat Cheese: Pour 2 tablespoons of black sesame seeds onto a small plate. Roll the goat cheese log in the seeds until completely coated. Set aside.
  3. Arrange the Large Items First: Place the brie wheel in the center-left, the aged gouda wedge in the top right, and the black sesame-coated goat cheese log in the bottom left of a large wooden board or slate platter.
  4. Add the Meats: Fold prosciutto slices into loose ribbons and place near the brie. Lay soppressata and capicola slices in overlapping rows or fan them out, creating a ‘river’ of meat through the center.
  5. Fill in with Fruits and Nuts: Place dried figs in a small cluster near the gouda. Scatter blackberries around the board. Put walnuts and Marcona almonds in small piles in empty spaces. Add black olives in a small bowl or directly on the board.
  6. Add the Crackers and Chocolate: Fan out crackers in a few spots around the edge. Break dark chocolate into rustic shards and tuck them between cheese and fruit.
  7. Drizzle and Garnish: Drizzle honey over the brie and goat cheese in a zigzag pattern. Place fresh rosemary sprigs around the board. If using, place edible flowers gently on top of cheese or scattered around.
  8. The Final Check: Step back and ensure a good mix of colors and textures. Fill any empty spaces with extra walnuts or chocolate shards.

Notes

For best flavor, serve cheeses at room temperature. Pre-slice hard cheese for easier serving. For a spooky honey drizzle, create a spider web effect by drizzling honey in a circular pattern over brie and dragging a toothpick from center outward. Avoid overcrowding the board; use multiple boards if needed. Leftovers can be stored separately: cheese in airtight containers, meats wrapped in parchment paper, crackers and nuts in ziplock bags.
