A quick and easy air fryer teriyaki salmon recipe that delivers a perfectly glazed, tender, and flaky salmon with a sweet and savory teriyaki finish in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 salmon fillets, skin-on, about 6 ounces (170 grams) each, fresh or thawed
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce, low sodium preferred
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil (optional but recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish
  • Toasted sesame seeds, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the teriyaki glaze. Set aside.
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Lightly season both sides with freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Generously coat the top side of each fillet with the teriyaki glaze using a pastry brush or spoon. Reserve some glaze for later.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Cook for 7-9 minutes depending on thickness.
  6. Halfway through cooking, brush the reserved glaze on top of the salmon for an extra shiny finish.
  7. Check for doneness: the salmon should flake easily with a fork but still feel moist. Add 1-2 more minutes if a more caramelized finish is desired, watching closely to avoid drying out.
  8. Transfer the salmon to plates, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, and serve immediately.

Notes

Pat salmon dry before glazing to ensure crispiness. Do not flip salmon in the air fryer to avoid breaking the fillets. If glaze is too runny, simmer on stove to thicken before applying. For gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheat best in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
